Somnath Temple, one of the best temple locations in India
A sacred site for all Krishna bhakts, the Somnath Temple, officially known as Aadi Jyotirling Shree Somnath Mahadev, is located on the shores of Gujarat near the Arabian Sea.
Legend has it that it was here that Lord Krishna took his last journey to his neejdham or final rest.
One of the twelve sacred Jyotirlings of Lord Shiva, it holds special importance for Hindus.
The temple complex consists of the Geeta Mandir where the Bhagvad Gita has been inscribed on to eighteen marble pillars.
The temple is a double tribute to major deities in Hindu mythology-Shiva and Krishna.
