Aurangabad, City of Gates, Maharashtra.

Aurangabad, a city seeped in medieval Mughal history

Gateway to  the UNESCO-recognized world heritage sites of Ajanta & Ellora Caves, Aurangabad is a place of immense historical importance, which makes it highly attractive to tourists.

The symbol of the Mughal power in Maharashtra, Aurangabad is dotted with vestiges of this legacy.

Besides this, it was the site of settlement of Buddhist monks and Jain thinkers which explain the existence of the impressive Ajanta-Ellora caves with its centuries-old cave paintings and the Jain rock-cut temples.

One drawback of visiting Aurangabad is that most places of interest are located at a considerable distance from the main city. Thus, though visitors stay in the city, further road travel is required for most sightseeing.
